Barely a week after Microsoft released the Zune HD, a company called Foundation42 has announced that they have successfully ported their upcoming iPhone game, called WordMonger, over to the device in as little as twelve hours.

Exciting past couple of weeks, eh? The price cuts mad rush continued on this week with Microsoft joining in on the bandwagon. Meanwhile, Nintendo's sitting prettily and quietly, choosing the status quo, because, hey, they're on top in the status quo. Wouldn't want to change a thing about that now, would you? It's also one event after the another, from E3 to GamesCom to upcoming PAX and TGS. If this does not revive interest in the industry, I don't know what will. This latter half of the calendar year is just bursting at the seams, and we've got a portion of all that action here in this nice little bundle for you stamped as QuickPeek 87.

GamesCom sure did not disappoint this week, although it did color our front page purple for the most part. No doubt about it, Sony ruled the spotlight this past week, and there's even no point saying otherwise. Fanboy or not, plain fact is that Sony was responsible for probably 80% of the gaming-related activity on the Internet this week. We may be seeing a new iPhone 3GS model out on retail shelves soon. Canadian wireless company Rogers is apparently getting ready to ship out 8GB models of the new iPhone 3GS, which could very possibly be the replacement for the 8GB iPhone 3G model.

Everyone sure had a lot to say this week, from analysts to company execs, all the way to the President, and even the regular commenting folks. Action-packed is the most apt word to describe the past seven days, I believe. A lot of controversies have been courted too, and quite frankly, the gaming scene did happily oblige for some. There's a bit of a shortage in iPhone games in this week's edition of the iPhone Weekend Warrior, but fear not, the recap still has some goodies with which you could tinker with your iPhone. In case you missed it, that prematurely released Resident Evil 4 for iPhone turns out to be completely legit, and you can read about that and a lot more right here.

"And stay tuned, because we're going to have some retail stores opened up that are opened  up right next to Apple stores this fall. Stay tuned, just stay tuned." That would be Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner, announcing at the Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference keynote that they are indeed ready to rumble in the retail industry. Looks like someone's out for the kill right there.

Another week full of lawsuits. Poor, beleaguered company Midway came under fire once again, and this time it was from a very unlikely direction: the guy behind the Mortal Kombat movies is suing them in order to "protect his IP rights", which is a better way of saying that he wants to keep milking the MK franchise for as long as possible. Square Enix also got served with a class-action lawsuit for "deceiving" Final Fantasy XI patrons regarding fees. Not everything was bad, though. I'm personally baffled and not all too keen about Koei Tecmo's proposition of  incentivizing their staff to expand their families. Maybe they do need the population in their headquarters' town. But what I am sure of is that the news and updates here at QJ are expanding and on their own, beyond the shadows of E3.The (post) event updates have considerably slowed down, but in its place are new items and updates to buzz about, like a new custom firmware, executives' gripes about leakages in the industry, and pushing forth the race of this generation from mere hardware to motion control. It's all right here, so dig in.

This week on the iPhone - high profile names are turning up at the App Store. The list includes Terminator, Resident Evil, X-Men Origins, and even Final Fantasy. Now that's some serious iPhone gaming right there. And if you thought that the hardware rumor-fest was only limited to Sony and Microsoft, you'd be wrong.
