Apple has formally announced that the App Store has now amassed an archive of over 100,000 applications from first and third-party developers, marking yet another milestone for the largest online app storefront in the world, give or take a few thousand iFodder. No, I'm totally kidding.

Nothing like a slew of big names to get the crowd going for ya. Be it in games, apps, or other forms of software, this week's batch has a big name on it. Let's see - Wolfenstein, Dracula, Metallica, Doom, NASA, iTunes, Blackra1n. Wouldn't want to miss those, so read up and stay informed.

After the whole Napster debacle Metallica is now quite gung ho about using newfangled technology to get their music out to the public. They partnered up with Activision for Guitar Hero: Metallica earlier this year, and now they're teaming up with Tapulous for a stab at the iPhone gaming market.

More games trickled into the App Store this week, including the much-awaited iPhone and iPod Touch iterations of two big names: Earthworm Jim and Rock Band. More is expected to follow with the announcements of Ghosts 'N Goblins and Garters & Ghouls. But while games are packing into the App Store, one game gets an unfortunate boot out of the App Store, and it might not be your typical infringement case.

Portable rhythm gaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch has just gotten bigger. Rock Band's iPhone and iPod Touch iteration is now live and rocking the Apple App Store.

Luc Bernard is not a fan of the App Store's microtransaction, and he does not waste time playing coy about his opinions. Talking to PocketGamer, the Oyaji Games head did not have qualms using the word "rape" to describe the presence of paid-for DLC on the popular DL store.

EA Mobile is at it again. After announcing iPhone Rock Band yesterday, the developers have today revealed, via their Twitter page, that a scaled down version of Command & Conquer Red Alert will be coming to the Apple App Store later this month.

The guys from EA Mobile has finally confirmed the release of Rock Band for the iPhone via their Twitter page. The miniature version of Rock Band will support multiplayer, 20 songs, in-game store and more. Check out the gameplay after the break.
